Building Confidence to Save a Life

Building Confidence to Save a Life
Recently, residents from Pooncarie, Ellerslie, Wentworth and Fort Courage took part in free CPR and AED training sessions, gaining hands-on skills in emergency response protocols, CPR for both adults and infants, and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

These practical, face-to-face sessions were led by Brenton Chatterton, Intensive Care Paramedic from Mildura First Aid Services.

Wentworth Shire Council sincerely thanks Brenton for delivering these vital sessions, and acknowledges the support of the Pooncarie and District Development Association (P.A.D.D.A).

Students from Palinyewah Primary School also took part and will be awarded participation certificates for learning lifesaving skills on the day.

These sessions were proudly organised by Wentworth Shire Council and funded through Spontaneous Volunteers, a NSW Government program.

The Buronga Effluent Disposal Station will not be operational from 7am Monday 23 June until 5pm Monday 30 June 2025.

Privacy Awareness Week NSW 2025

Privacy Awareness Week is a global campaign that involves both public sector agencies and citizens and aims to improve understanding and awareness of NSW privacy legislation, and to raise awareness of a person’s privacy rights and agency obligations.

Privacy Awareness Week NSW takes place from 16 – 22 June 2025 and this year’s theme is Privacy – it’s everyone’s business and focuses on privacy being a shared responsibility where everyone has an important role to play. By working together, the protection and security of personal information can be maintained.

Wentworth Shire Council is a proud Champion of Privacy Awareness Week NSW 2025 and is committed to protecting the privacy of NSW citizens.

In NSW, your privacy is protected by the:

  • Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act) which outlines how NSW public sector agencies, including government agencies, local councils, State-Owned Corporations and universities, manage and protect personal information
  • Health Records Information Privacy Act 2002 (HRIP Act) which promotes fair and responsible handling of health information. The HRIP Act applies to an organisation in NSW that is a health service provider or that collects, holds or uses health information. This includes both public and private sector organisations.

This Privacy Awareness Week, consider these privacy protection measures to help you be more privacy-conscious:

  • Protecting your privacy starts with being cautious about what you share. Think twice before posting personal details on social media or other platforms. Only connect and share with people you know.
  • Use strong, unique passwords for different accounts. This helps prevent unauthorised access to your personal information. Regularly update your passwords to enhance security and enable two-factor authentication wherever possible.
  • Be cautious of phishing scams and unsolicited requests for personal information. Verify the source before providing any details.
  • Shred unwanted papers that show your personal information.
  • Report any data breaches or suspicious activity to the relevant authorities. Stay vigilant and proactive in protecting your information.

As a member of the public, you have a right to have your personal information protected. If you are concerned about a breach of your privacy by Wentworth Shire Council, you can request us to conduct an internal privacy review. Learn more here Wentworth Shire Council Privacy Management Plan.

The Information and Privacy Commission (IPC) can also help you understand privacy laws in NSW and give you information on how to protect your personal information and assert your rights. Learn more by visiting the Privacy Awareness Week webpage www.ipc.nsw.gov.au/PAWNSW2025

Wentworth Visitor Centre Crowned State’s Best in Prestigious Infrastructure Awards!

Wentworth Visitor Centre Crowned State’s Best in Prestigious Infrastructure Awards!

Wentworth Shire Council is thrilled to announce that the Wentworth Visitor Centre has won a prestigious state award.

Last night, at a gala ceremony in Sydney, the community’s landmark facility won the Asset and Infrastructure – Over $1.5 million – Under 50K Population category at the 2025 Local Government Professionals Australia, NSW Awards for Excellence.

This incredible achievement celebrates the transformation of the former Wentworth Services Club into the vibrant community hub it is today—a journey that began with the community, through a petition signed by over 500 residents back in 2016.

Mayor Daniel Linklater, who accepted the award alongside General Manager Ken Ross, said the win belongs to the entire community.

“This award is a phenomenal honour that we share with every resident. It validates the vision our community showed when they first petitioned for this project,” Mayor Linklater said. “To have the hard work, planning, and passion that went into this facility recognised as the best in its class across the state is a truly outstanding achievement for our Shire.”

General Manager Ken Ross acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the $14.25 million project.

“This award is wonderful recognition for a complex and ambitious project that was many years in the making. To see the final result celebrated on a state stage is incredibly rewarding,” Mr Ross said. “This is a testament to the dedication of our funding partners in the State and Federal Governments, and the exceptional project team at GSD Architects, CPM Building Contractors, and Brandi Projects, whose collective expertise was crucial to our success.”

A Win for the Whole Community

Since opening in October 2024, the Centre has proven to be a resounding success:

  • Visitor numbers skyrocketed, with a 718% increase in visitors to the Information Centre in December compared to the previous year.
  • The library is buzzing, with patronage increasing by 250% in the same period.
  • The Centre provides a one-stop-shop for residents by housing the Visitor Information Centre, Library, Council Administration Offices, and Council Chambers under one roof.
  • It has become a true community destination with features like the Junction Café, interactive historical displays, an Indigenous yarning circle, and a modern conference facility.

Council is incredibly proud of this state-level recognition and what it says about the vision and spirit of Wentworth.

Council extends a huge thank you to the Wentworth community for its unwavering support from day one. Residents and visitors who haven’t had a chance to see the facility yet are encouraged to come and experience the award-winning Wentworth Visitor Centre.
